Best Traditional Cornish Pasty Recipe

The traditional Cornish pasty, loved by many both who live here and many visitors which visit Cornwall every year. Families have their own closely guarded secret recipes past down from generation to generation, but if you fancy having a go at this marvellous Cornish meal then this is the very basics…

Ingredients

Potato, turnip (Swede), Beef Skirt, Onion, Salt, Pepper, Butter

Method

Roll out pastry and use a tea plate to trim pastry to size, slice potato and turnip (not dice). Place a layer of potato and then turnip. Cut the beef into cubes and make up the last layer. Add salt & pepper, butter and sliced onion. Fold over and crimp edges. Beat an egg and use a pastry brush to glaze. (Milk could also be used as an alternative)

Place in oven and cook on 200°C for 30 minutes then reduce heat to 180°C for a further 30 minutes and until golden brown. Ensure filling is cooked throughout before enjoying with a cup of sugary tea……ansome!
